Author of Fake Iran Story Invited to White House as Iraq â€˜Expert’

President Bush met yesterday with a small group of what the White House described as “experts” on Iraq, a meeting most notable for its inclusion of Amir Taheri. Taheri wrote the recent op-ed piece in a Canadian newspaper claiming that Iran was passing a law forcing Jews, Christians, and other religious minorities to wear yellow stripes in public. The fact that the story was quickly exposed as deliberately inflammatory fiction apparently hasn’t affected the Bush administration’s opinion of Taheri.

Bush finaly comments on war crime allegations

First Hurricane Katrina, now this. How many times will we learn that the media knew about national catastrophes and scandals before the president did? Bush is actually hiding behind his stupidity and using it as an excuse for learning first from a Time Magazine reporter about the alleged incident in November of last year of the massacre of Iraqi civilians. He commented today for the first time since the Time article:

President Bush said Wednesday he was troubled by allegations that U.S. Marines had killed unarmed Iraqi civilians and that, “if in fact laws were broken, there will be punishment."

Neil Volz, Rep. Bob Ney’s (R-OH) former top aide testified today in the trial of David Safavian, saying that when he worked for Abramoff, he received help from not only from Ney, but also Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Rep. Don Young (R-AK), and Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-OH).
