Lets Make Change.

Stop the violence NOW!

Abbas El-Zein writes a bias but nonetheless tragic Opinion on the current situation in Lebanon. The passage below struck a particular cord with me but the entire piece is worth a read.

More is at stake now than the fate of Lebanon. If the West does not persuade Israel to stop its attacks, that failure will add to a creeping sense that, in its fight with Islamic fundamentalism, the West has abandoned its claim to moral superiority based on respect for human rights and international law, and is pursuing instead a war based increasingly on tribal solidarity. What a tragedy this would be, especially for those of us who crave a modern, peaceful Middle East. And what a triumph for the varied strains of bin Ladenism — Muslim, Christian and Jewish alike.

  1. I would give his peice more creadability if Hezbollah had not been to ones to invade Israel, or had Hezbollah actually ever called for a ceasefire, or had Iran not held to, and repeated, its call that Israel must be wiped off the map.

But given that none of these have happened, I feel he is just putting forth more everyone must feel sorry for the terrorists and their supporters BS.

  2. There we go..

When did Hezbollah invade Israel? Hezbollah has worked their whole lives to get rid of Israel. Why would they call for a ceasefire?

Iran is playing this game perfectly. It is brilliant. Start a regional war that will eventually engulf Israel through outrageous statements and finance, conducting it by proxy in order to gain hegemony over the region.

  3. You asked:

[ When did Hezbollah invade Israel? ]

What have you been living in the dark?

Did you miss Hezbollah invading Israel, 3 soldiers and capturing two more?

Here is a writeup from the Washington Post:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/12/AR2006071200262.html

BEIRUT, July 13 — The Lebanese Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah infiltrated the Israeli border Wednesday in a brazen raid, capturing two Israeli soldiers, killing three others and prompting Israeli attacks on the airport in Beirut and bridges, roads, power stations and military positions across the hillsides of southern Lebanon. Five more Israeli soldiers were killed after the army entered Lebanon in pursuit, one of the military’s highest one-day death tolls in more than four years.

  4. OK I see what you mean.

Well, alright. When I saw invade, my mind instantly thought of an attempted takeover of Israel. But yes, it could be considered nothing more than trespassing. My apologies.

  5. “Hezbollah has worked their whole lives to get rid of Israel. Why would they call for a ceasefire?”

These two sentences basically excuse Hezbollah for their radical idealogy. The PROBLEM with Hezbollah is that they have worked since their founding to destroy a sovereign state, and they would be unwilling to halt their destructive actions.
