NY Times: Lieberman funded by Republicans

The official Ned Lamont blog picked out the dirt on Joe from today’s front page article in the Times.

So who is supporting Joe Lieberman?

When it comes to supporting candidates for public office, the Associated General Contractors of America gives 90 percent of its campaign contributions to Republicans. And then there is Senator Joseph I. Lieberman. […] Anyone looking for evidence of Mr. Lieberman’s bipartisan appeal can find it in his roster of recent contributors, which includes organizations that traditionally give more to Republicans.

Those who profit from the war in Iraq.

They include engineering and construction firms, some with contracts in Iraq. Those firms include Bechtel, Fluor International and Siemens, which support Republicans 64 to 70 percent of the time, according to data compiled by PoliticalMoneyLine, which tracks campaign and lobbying activities.

With nearly 80 percent of his money coming from outside Connecticut, Mr. Lieberman had the highest rate of out-of-state money of any incumbent senator, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political contributions.

  1. You know, you the Dems would run Liberman, they might actually have a chance of winning an election.

Not much of one, but still a whole lot more than Hilary.

  2. Someone who is so in step with the Bush handling of the war would never win a general election. Not in this climate where Bush’s approval ratings on the war have sunken so low. Granted, Hillary has already lost the General Election, but I believe the Dems are smart enough to run one of their other big players. I’m hoping for Gore.
