Maliki to set timetable for troop withdrawal

It seems when we set up a Democratic state in Iraq we literally meant Democratic.  Even Prime Minister Maliki will be setting a time table for American troop withdrawal and Iraqi troop buildup.  This is precisely what Democrats have been asking for for months and the Bush administration has been refusing to provide for months.

The response from the White House is still unclear.

  1. That’s not what it says,

When he took power last month, Mr Maliki pledged to take control of Iraq’s security situation from the US-led coalition within 18 months.

Reports from the US suggest military planners are aiming to reduce the numbers of troops in Iraq over the next 12 months, but no firm decision has yet been taken.

That isn’t a timetable. That is a campaign promise.
