Iraq Insurgent Attacks at Highest Level in 2 Years

Attacks by insurgents in Iraq are being launched with the greatest frequency since military commanders began tracking them two years ago, the Pentagon reported yesterday in its quarterly report to Congress. From February 11 to May 12, insurgents are said to have staged an average of 600 attacks every week, up from about 400 attacks a week in the spring of 2004. Though U.S. officials still insist the installation of a new government marks a turning point in ending the sectarian violence, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki’s rhetoric is only growing more warlike, as he vows to use an “iron fist” to crush the resistance in Basra.

I thought the insurgency was "in it's last throws".

  1. It was silly to say it was in its last throes. The insurgency will continue for 15 years I reckon.
