Schiavo Scandal

Okay…so here we are, a nation in turmoil, a war in Iraq, unfinished business in Afghanistan, social security crisis looming, and what does Congress call a special Sunday session to discuss? Terri Schiavo. By now I’m sure we all know much more than we would ever want to about Schiavo, her vegitated state, and her feeding tube. But Congress knows nothing about it…well unless you count the 15+ federal court rulings that favored removing the feeding tube, which Congress voted null and void and President Bush signed into law yesterday. Not one Congressman or government official has heard testimony from anyone involved in the case nor have they done any medical research, yet they have decided to rush a law through Congress that would save Terri’s life. Well it would save her life, if she would benefit from having the tube reconnected, but according to an MSNBC story, doctor’s say that a recovery is impossible, she’s been like this for 15 years, at the expense of Florida taxpayers who foot Terri’s medicaid bill. Congress has no place in this case, and by the new law, which should not really effect Terri, since it is exo facto, the 109th Congress has essentially nullified the rational thinking of over 15 federal judges, thus striking down the power of the judicial branch. Let’s hear it for checks and balances. I call upon all Americans to encourage a repeal of this law as soon as possible, so our government can have a little bit of democracy left in it.

I beleive it was 19 FL State Judges, and not any Federal ones, and the law Congress passed just moved it to the Federal level, and out of the States. As far as I know, only Congress can do this.
